This courses discusses the psychological basis for developing and implementing an effective safety and health awards and incentive program. The course will review the pros and cons of various types of incentive programs and discuss OSHA's interpretation letter and position on incentive programs. Participants will be provided with criteria to use to establish an effective safety and health incentive and award program. The Army Accident Prevention Awards Program will be reviewed and options for expansion and effective use discussed. Safety awards enhance Army operations and improve safety awareness through recognition and promotion of individual and organizational accident prevention measures and successes. Learn To: • Discuss the psychology and behavioral theories behind awards and incentive programs. • Identify criteria for effective safety and health awards and incentive programs. • Discuss proactive and reactive programs. • Review Army requirements for Army Accident Prevention Awards Program. • Identify the importance of Army Accident Prevention Awards Program to include a proactive incentive award program. • Discuss guidelines and maximum dollar amounts authorized for Soldier, civilian, and contractor incentive awards.
